Our client located in Concord, Ontario has an immediate opening for a Mould Designer (Mechanical)


  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of theories and principals used in mould design, build and machining processes, injection moulding process, RIM moulding process, various specialized moulding or forming processes, mould cooling theory and hydraulic principals
  • Support, adhere to and provide accurate feedback weekly to the Design Timeline regarding job progress relative to established milestones. Document the reasons why milestones are missed and look for process improvement opportunities
  • Work closely with estimating and program managers to assist in the development of new tooling and engineering change quotes
  • Complete accurate feasibility studies for medium to large size injection tooling
  • Prepare, schedule and conduct organized efficient design review meetings highlighting issues and options to ensure efficient flow if information
  • Support the standardized design and outputs to Production
  • Ensure components ready for machine or outsource including all information (files in IGES or E3, M/C forms, weld maps, etc.) per schedule to maximize utilization
  • Ensure you receive a Shop Work Order Form and the budget hours before reworking or adding engineering changes to the design if the work is outside the original scope of the program
  • Ensure the stock-list procedures are completed to eliminate duplicate orders or unnecessary inventory
  • Ensure the Job Books are up-to-date and actuate containing all job related information and customer Specifications and that company standards are followed in all areas of the design
  • Support and participate in the timely completion of the Job Planning Worksheet for Production, Open Issues Tracking Form for Program Management, and the Design Checklist
  • Ensure a thorough completion of the Change Impact Checklist with the receipt of any Engineering changes
  • Work in a team environment developing various types of tool designs that are manufacture friendly to both build and machining centers
  • Expected to model all tooling situations ensuring Mold functionality and integrity
  • Compare existing feasibility reports to final data and inform Estimating of any changes in scope
  • Support and participate in the job planning process (pull scheduling)
  • Ensure contour-milling data is issued to manufacturing according to design time-line.
  • Flexibility to work outside of core hours as required to meet the demands on the engineering department
  • Work with Design Team Leaders to develop best methods for development of solid/surface models
  • Establish a clear understanding of project scope and execute designs within estimated hour targets
  • Prepare and issue files both internally and to outsources Participate in benchmarking of new tooling and equipment and provide accurate, timely feedback
  • Utilize the non-conformance process to provide accurate, detailed documentation of all issues, non-conformances or constraints that cause rework or tool delay and understand why this has occurred
  • Able to travel as required for investigational or training purposes
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abide by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, promote safety in the workplace
  • Report all accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions/behaviour
  • Adhere to applicable quality systems
  • Participate in and support Continuous Improvement and WCM initiatives
  • Maintain work area in accordance with the principles of 5S and operate daily within these standards; Ensure work area is kept neat and organized


  • Post-Secondary diploma/certificate in Tooling or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 – 5 years experience in mould design, build and machining processes and injection moulding processes
  • Must have excellent communications skills
