Senior Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and administers WSIB policies and programs; ensures the program is in compliance.
  • Monitor and respond to mail and email daily, and follow up appropriately and in a timely matter
  • Liaises with supervisors/ managers on each reported incident to gather information to confirm the accident details.
  • Review incoming  WSIB correspondence and co-ordinate with the WSIB Case Manager when required
  • Manages and administers EHS programs (safety glasses, safety shoes, Safety Month)
  • Data entry
  • Project work
  • Works within a team environment to accomplish EHS / TG Minto goals
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned
  • Assist in maintaining safety guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Able to effectively communicate both safety and environmental training topics.
  • Assist in ensuring and monitoring regulatory issues. (i.e. EPA)
  • Assist in initial new-hire safety training and follow-up interaction for new employees.
  • Assists the EHS with accident management and prevention.
  • Maintain and file documentation needed for reporting to controlling agencies.
  • Able to interpret and decipher environmental permit requirements.
  • Travel to the Secondary site periodically to conduct training on a scheduled basis.
  • Health & Safety Training – records administrator; assist with course registration, issuing certificates as required.
  • Promote a positive culture of health and safety in the workplace
  • Report safety and environmental issues to the EHS manager

  • 1-2 years of related work experience in HR / EHS with a focus on WSIB, disability claims administration and Return to Work planning.
  • Strong knowledge of WSIB/WCB policy and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of the Human Rights Code, OHSA, AODA, ESA as well as other related legislation.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with strong time-management skills in order to meet strict reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to remain objective and demonstrate good decision-making skills in challenging scenarios.
  • Demonstrated common sense with the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to support individuals at all levels in the organization.
  • Service focused – interacting with both external agencies and internal partners.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally.
