Safety Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain documentation and document control for the overall Health and Safety program, includes creating new policies, drafting safe work practices documentation, maintaining forms, and reviewing all documentation
  • Coordination and administration of the safety system
  • Prepare and administer action plans and safety actions from external & internal audits, inspections, and investigations
  • Coordinate and implement hazard assessment program & tools
  • Liaison to all departments on OH&S matters
  • Coordinate safety tracking and audit the processes
  • Set-up and implementation of Workplace Information Gateway (WIG)
  • Member of the Occupational Health & Safety Committee
  • Weekly and month end reporting of safety stats
  • Job Training and Competency determination
  • Aid the Supervisors & Superintendents, assisting with development of programs, tools, & skills including:
    • Inspections
    • Investigations
    • Observations
    • Conducting crew meetings
    • Hazard assessments (FLRA & Job Hazard Assessments)

Skills and Qualifications:

  • OH&S Certification and BCRSP Designation
  • Forestry, sawmill manufacturing experience
  • Safety focused attitude and strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including superior listening skills and the ability to interpret and pass on detailed information accurately to external and internal agencies and clients
  • Ability to coordinate presentations and execute them effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills, including self-directed development of new OH&S programs, tools, and education on an on-going basis
  • Strong skills in working with individuals to educate & develop their skills in OH&S systems, tools, and activities.
  • Ability to work independently, and to communicate daily activities and changes effectively to a working team
  • Ability to build a team approach for safety
  • Ability to work positively in a busy, demanding environment
  • Computer product skills including generic office software, and operating systems
  • Ongoing commitment to stay current with OH&S principles
  • Proven ability to work with a very demanding workload, changing priorities and continuous interruptions, and to co-ordinate activities within the work of the unit
  • Perform effective problem solving for routine and non-routine tasks
  • Knowledge of occupational health & safety principles, policies, and regulations
  • Minimum of 5 years OH&S experience
  • General understanding of HSE Management Systems, familiarity with the construction sectors certifying partner’s safety standard(s) is required
